We are very excited to have your child with us as we begin the 2011/2012 Pre-School classes on Tuesday, September 6th at 9 a.m. The teachers are busy planning many new and exciting activities for their class. In order for your child to have the maximum opportunity to participate in class each day, please have them here by 8:45 a.m. This year we are using a combination of curriculums including POCET, Abeka, Handwriting Without Tears and Hands on Explorations. Each child will be assessed within the first two weeks and the report will be sent home on September 19th. Teachers will be available by appointment to discuss any concerns you may have. A well rested child is more eager to learn and participate; we encourage your child to get plenty of sleep each night Reminder The annual registration fee is due the week of September 5th and the new tuition rates go into effect. If you have questions regarding your new rate you may ask Beverly, Deloris or Anna or refer to the letter we gave you a few weeks ago. Sign In/Out Children MUST be signed in and out of the center each day by an adult. Children under the age of 18 are not allowed to sign them in or out. Insect Repellent Insect repellent will not be applied on a child without a completed and signed medicine sheet. There are not exceptions to this DHR rule. Sick Policy Children with one or more of the following symptoms are not allowed to attend until they have been free of the following symptoms for 24 hours: Fever, throwing up and diarrhea. Children with conjunctivitis/pink eye may not return until they have been on medication for 24 hours. Children sent home with head lice may return after they have been treated. If you discover head lice on your child please let us know so we can treat the center. Shoes/Clothing This is not a new policy; however, we continue to have problems with children wearing non- athletic shoes to the center. For the safety of your child, do not send them in flip flops, sandals, crocks or any other non-athletic shoe to the center. Birthday Parties Children love having birthday celebrations with their friends in their class and we welcome these fun parties. You are welcomed to bring store bought cakes, cupcakes or cookies. The health department prohibits homemade food being served at the center. Due to food allergies and chocking hazards, we ask that you do not send goodie bags. After-School Care Parents Please call the center by 2 p.m. if your child is not riding the van. Not knowing a child is absent delays the van route for the other children. Pre-K 4 Field Trips The first Pre-K4 field trip will be to the Birmingham Zoo on Thursday, September 15th. We will be leaving the center at 9:30 a.m. and returning by 1:30 p.m. Parents are always welcome to join us. Please refer to your special events calendar for future monthly field trips.
